Built a claims data and identity infrastructure platform to bring visibility, auditability, and reliability to payer-provider billing at scale.

Millions recovered in previously invisible missed billing, with the authentication issues that had plagued clinical staff eliminated for good.

Client: Envision Healthcare
Engagement: Kickdrum client project
Role: Product lead

Context

Envision Healthcare's payer-provider billing ran through 835 and 837 EDI files that had never been fully modeled or connected to a single source of truth, while a legacy identity system caused constant application timeouts for clinical staff. Revenue was being lost somewhere inside that opacity, but nobody could point to exactly where.

What I Did

  • Built a daily ingestion pipeline linking Envision's on-premise billing monolith with provider 837 files and payer 835 files, with full traceability and auditability across the entire billing lifecycle — procedure to outcome to invoice to receipt.
  • Oversaw requirements definition and data warehouse schema design, balancing reporting depth against performance.
  • Partnered directly with Envision's HIPAA compliance team throughout, so every stage of data handling and reporting was reviewed against regulatory requirements as it was built.
  • Migrated Envision's identity and access management to serverless AWS infrastructure, implementing automatic warm-ups and graceful failure handling to eliminate the timeouts that had been logging clinicians out mid-task.

Outcome

  • $4M recovered in missed and under-billing within 6 months of deployment
  • Authentication timeouts eliminated for clinical staff across the platform
