Context
BlueHornet, later Mapp, wanted to move off a monolithic, on-premise architecture and toward a cloud-first platform without a costly migration undermining the business case. The bar was high: even peak traffic moments like Black Friday and Cyber Monday couldn't be allowed to slow down.
What I Did
- Aligned customers, sales, and customer-success teams around a new roadmap, balancing product monetization and retention needs while planning migration for new and existing customers.
- Directed migration of a specialized, high-volume infrastructure and enormous databases from an on-premise data center to AWS, hitting tight deadlines where a miss carried real financial cost.
- Directed development of a segmentation platform with a visual definition tool, letting marketers build highly targeted segments without writing SQL or Boolean logic.
- Integrated design, architecture, and DevOps into the customer's organization, replacing a cumbersome waterfall process with a modern, Atlassian-enabled agile workflow.
Outcome
- Operating costs reduced by more than 50%, saving millions annually
- Faster message processing than ever before, even at Black Friday peak volume
- “Kickdrum's team is world class.” — Mike Biwer, former CEO, Mapp
